Una V. Armstrong
September 19th, 1924 - April 11th, 2016
Una V. Armstrong September 19, 1924 - April 11, 2016 Una Victoria Armstrong personified her name. A beautiful, woman who was always caring for others, she was the "one"; she was "victorious" and she was "strong." Just after midnight, on April 10, 2016, Una won her crown of life as she transitioned from this life into the next on the wings of angels. From her humble beginnings in Jamaica, Una, the second oldest of five siblings, followed her ambitions to England and then to the U.S where she worked as a Nurse's aide for 19 years in the Jewish Home for the Aged in the Bronx, New York. Seeking warmer climes, she moved to Port Charlotte Florida with her husband, Douglas Armstrong and they set about making their new home. A fiercely independent woman, she survived her husband's death in 1997 by following her passion for helping others. Una made her presence felt, as an active member of Community Life Center, balancing her ministry life with time for family, supporting an array of Christian missions, hosting in home prayer meetings and practicing her love of baking. Una loved to bake. Breads, cakes, muffins, cookies - it didn't matter as long as it went into an oven as batter and emerged as a tasty treat. She loved to cook. Her collection of books include numerous cookbooks from which she experimented constantly, often exclaiming "it nice!" She loved to putter around in her garden, pulling weeds, planting and reaping sorrel, papayas and pineapples and spending countless hours relaxing in her backyard watching the sun rise or set and listening to the birds in the trees. Una V. Armstrong was many things to many people. A mother to her sons, Michael Brown and Delroy Forbes. A grandmother to her grandchildren Maxine, Zalia, Oprah and Marsha and great-grandmother to Tyrell, Leilani, Jade, Lennox. She was sister and friend to her surviving siblings Inez and Irvine and advisers to her daughter-in-law Judith and Veronica.
