Raymond Joseph Donahue

Raymond Donahue, age 73, of Lake Suzy, Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016. He was born in Chicago on November 19, 1942, the son of Edward and Rose (McNally) Donahue. He married Antoinette in 1963 at St. Alphonsus in Chicago. Ray was proud of his career in Law Enforcement, spending 25+ years with the City of McHenry as a policeman, retiring as Chief of Police. He respected the men and women in uniform and proudly mentored many young policemen along the way. He is a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, was a member of the Moose, the Elks and a founding member of the Friday Night Club. Ray was known for his wit and his honesty. He was known for being a "stand-up guy". He loved his wife Toni more than anything and enjoyed spending time with his family. His pride and joy were his three grandsons. Ray Donahue lived his life "his way"; like his idol Frank Sinatra. Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Ton; his son, Edward (Rochelle) Donahue of Crystal Lake, IL; his daughter, Laura (David) Welter of McHenry, IL; his sister, Rose Marie (the late Amadeo) Gizzi of Roselle, IL; brother, James (Gloria) Donahue of Wonder Lake, IL; brother, John (Grace) Donahue of Wise, VA; and grandchildren, Ryan, Zachery and Jacob Donahue. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rose Donahue; his sister, Mary Geraci; brother, William Healy; and brother, Edward Donahue. Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Dr., McHenry, IL and on Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 9:30am to 10:30am at the funeral home. Mass was held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 3500 Washington St., McHenry, IL. at 11:00am. Burial was be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Ray's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
