Dale John Martens

Dale John Martens, 90, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare in Charlotte Harbor, FL. Mr. Martens was born February 12, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio to John B. and Esther (nee Gross) Martens. He married his wife, Jean, on August 4, 1949 in Bedford, Ohio and moved to this area in 1958 from Miami and prior to that from Aurora, OH. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Air Force as a Bombardier and was discharged with the rank of Captain. Mr. Martens worked for Mackle Brothers in Miami who then transferred him to Port Charlotte where he then worked for General Development. Upon retiring, he and his wife, Jean bought a motor home and travelled the United States and Canada. Mr. Martens will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him! Mr. Martens is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean B. Martens of Punta Gorda; sons, David J. Martens of Manasquan, NJ, Dale J. (Lucia) Martens, Jr. of Maple Valley, WA, and Richard A. (Tori) Martens of Bonaire, GA; daughters, Rosemary A. (Maurice) Daniels, Warren, MI, Delma J. (Jim) Tuck-Sexton of Punta Gorda, Donna L. (Theodore) Clore of Ocala, FL, and Ruth M. (James) Cudzilo of Punta Gorda; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 11:00AM-12:00PM on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, 12687 SW County Road 769 - Kings Highway in Lake Suzy. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery at 2:30PM.
