July 20th, 1953 - December 12th, 2016
William Stephen Holub, age 63, died from cancer at Bay Front Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida on Monday, December 12th, 2016. He was born on July 20, 1953 in Anamosa, Iowa to Ernest and Lynette (Brown) Holub. William grew up in Ft Collins, Colorado and joined the Army after graduating from Ft Collins High School. In the army, William served in Germany as part of the 101st Airborne Reconnaissance Division and was proud of his service and the friends he made there. William then returned to civilian life, traveling and working at various trades across the country. In 1982, William moved to the Virgin Islands and spent 10 years there, working and sailing. Upon returning in 1992 to the US, William bought a small parcel of land at the foot of Mt Blanca in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. He built and lived in a cabin on the property and loved the beauty of the area and the freedom it brought. In 2010, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer which was successfully treated to remission over the next year. In 2014, Will sold his cabin and moved to Punta Gorda, Florida living with friends until a short bout with the same cancer resulted in his death. William loved history, philosophy, politics, and football. He is survived by his sister, Anna Sturgeon, his brother Peter, his niece and nephews Laurel, David, and Douglas Sturgeon and nephews Cameron, Spencer, and James Holub. Services and military honors will be held on Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida.
