Dorothy M. Snyder

Dorothy M. Snyder May 15, 1924- April 10, 2012 Dorothy Mabel Spencer was born on in Auburn, New York to Nellie and Norman Spencer. She had a childhood surrounded with a loving family and friends. Dorothy met Kenneth Snyder, also of Auburn, when she was just 17 years old. After her high schoo, they were married. The first years of their married life, they lived on Montauk Point, Long Island while Ken served with the Coastal Artillery in the U.S. Army. After WWII, they settled back in Auburn where they had four children and Dorothy served as a homemaker. In 1960 the family moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. There Dorothy quickly established herself in the community. The Snyders were charter members of the newly formed First Presbyterian Church where Dorothy was involved in many committees and was known for creating beautiful banners for the church. She was also a charter member of the Charlotte Players and found acting to be something that brought her great joy. Dorothy was an excellent seamstress and all her children were adorned in her creations. She was a loving mother with a delightful sense of humor who cared deeply about her family. Dorothy and Ken loved to travel and they enjoyed a large circle of good friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Linda Muller in 2004 and her husband Ken, in 2007. She is survived by children Carolyn Curles (Larry), Nancy Snyder, and David Snyder (Keota), and her grandchildren, Katharine Curles and Ryan Muller.
