Gene Strickland of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on Oct. 5, 2017 after a brief illness. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 32 years, Dorothea; a daughter Wendy Garner, son-in-law Tim and two grandchildren Reece and Cole Garner of Birmingham, Al; his sister Barbara Sylvain of Sarasota, Fl., and two nieces Kim Pennington and Cindy Rosenberg. Gene was born in Sarasota, Florida and graduated from Sarasota High School in 1961. He attended Manatee Junior College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served four years as an Electronics Technician stationed in Bremerton, Washington. After the Navy, Gene worked for Perry Oceanographics of West Palm Beach, Florida developing and repairing mini-submarines for deep sea exploration. He transitioned into working for Perry Cable TV as Chief Technical Engineer. Gene was then hired by Leadership Cablevision of Delray Beach, Florida as Chief Technical Engineer and promoted to General Manager of the company with over 60 employees. After retirement he and Dorothea moved to Sebring and then Port Charlotte, Florida. There will be a Celebration Service of Gene's Life on Oct. 28th at 2pm at the Unity Church of Peace at 1250 Rutledge Street, North Port, Florida 34288 (941-423-8171). All friends are invited to attend.
