October 17th, 1938 - August 15th, 2018
Albert Wilkerson, Jr. was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 17, 1938 and departed on August 15, 2018. Albert was a man of many talents and interests and lived a life of service. In his professional life, Albert transitioned from the military to law enforcement to education. He was an educator, historical presenter, youth advocate, husband, father, and grandfather. He attended elementary school in Chicago, Illinois, secondary school in Detroit, Michigan and earned a B.A. in Public Administration. In addition, Albert did extensive post-graduate work in Human Behavior, including race/human relations training, and conflict resolution training. Albert served in the U.S. Marine Corps for over 20 years and was a Vietnam Veteran. In California, he was an officer with San Diego Police Department and later a School Police officer. In addition, he taught Police Science and Human Behavior in San Diego City Schools and Community Colleges. He retired from all these varied careers in public service. Upon moving to North Idaho, Albert was a frequent guest speaker in Sociology and History classes at North Idaho College and Eastern University, and he shared the history of the Buffalo Soldiers at several community events. He also represented the state of Idaho as a National Delegate to the Democratic Presidential Conventions for both terms of President Obama. Albert's greatest lessons were those he passed on to his family and friends, sharing wonderful stories that were always told with a smile and love. Albert often spoke of forgiveness and moving forward. A favorite time and place to share memories was at the dinner table, where family and friends enjoyed his delicious culinary creations. In addition, Albert had a life-long affection for horses passing this on to his children and grandchildren. Albert is survived by his wife Amy; sisters Catherine, Roslyn, Minnie Grace and Alumani; daughter Marcia; sons Mark and Tedd; stepson Lester; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
