Funeral Alternatives of Washington - Tumwater
Richard "Joe" Strickland
September 26th, 1948 - October 30th, 2019
Joe was born Sept. 26, 1948 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He passed away Oct. 30, 2019, surrounded by his family, in Olympia, Washington. In 1966, Joe graduated from Laughbon High School in Dupont, Washington. After graduation, he went to Central Washington University to play football, and then transferred to Centralia Community College. Joe met the love of his life, Betty, and they married Aug. 15, 1969, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August. In February 1970, Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in Vietnam. After his tour, he returned and finished his 20+ years as an Army recruiter. He loved golfing, family reunions, BBQs, old country and western music, and to talk about his granddaughter, Trinity. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Trisha Hicks; son-in-law, Luke Hicks; son, Joey Strickland; granddaughter, Trinity Berrow; his siblings Herman Strickland III, May Beeson, Ginnie Nelson and Michael Strickland. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Strickland Jr. and Cora Strickland. Joe was especially proud of a certain little girl; she had his heart and love from the day she was born, and that girl was his granddaughter Trinity. Rest easy Dad. We all love you!
