Robert E. Whipple

Robert (Bob) E. Whipple of Punta Gorda, FL and Sandy Pond, NY passed away on August 4th, 2018 in Punta Gorda, FL after a brief hospital stay. He was the son of Gilford (Gilly) Whipple and Eula (nee Wanamaker) Whipple, and was born June 27, 1929 in Sayre, PA. Bob graduated from Binghamton North High School and then served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. For many years, Bob worked for Whipple's Lumber Yards throughout the Southern Tier of NY, and Northeastern PA. While in NY, he was an active member of the East Side Congregational Church and was a member of the Lion's Club. After retirement he moved to Punta Gorda. Bob's commitment to Lions Clubs continued with involvement in service events and in the establishment of a youth Leo's Club at the local high school. He was an involved member of the Congregational United Church of Christ on Aqui Esta. Happily, he continued to spend summers at the cottage he loved at Sandy Pond, New York, enjoying boating, fishing, golfing and family. Bob is survived by daughters: Sharon (Dave) Youmans and Linda Kamperman, both of Loveland OH. Son: Robert G. (Maureen) Whipple of Tunkhannock, PA, and brother Don (Yolanda) of San Antonio, Tx. Bob is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Gilly and Eula, wife of 57 years, Joyce (nee Kilts) and a son James. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Wednesday, August 8th at 2 PM, followed by a reception at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Punta Gorda, with arrangements made through Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home.
