Mary Lamb passed away peacefully on August 21, 2021, at the age of 89, with her husband of 65 years, Al, by her side. Mary was born on June 1, 1932, to Everett and Leta Riser in Bremerton, Washington. After moving to Tacoma at age five, she graduated from Stadium High School in 1950, where she met Al. Mary attended Whitman College from 1950 to 1952, before transferring to and then graduating from Washington State in 1954 with a degree in Radio Speech. While at Washington State, she received the Judith Waller award for excellence in Radio Speech. After Al graduated from Washington State in 1955, the two were married on August 26 of that year, and then packed up and moved across the country to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, where Al was stationed in the U.S. Army. The two eventually moved to Fort Gordon, Georgia, before settling in Olympia in 1958. Mary gave birth to and raised three children, Michael, Brian and Melanie. In addition to being a loving homemaker, Mary was an active fundraiser in the local Philanthropic Education Organization, and served as a tour guide at the Governor’s Mansion. Mary was a longtime member of Westwood Baptist Church, serving as both a Bible Study leader and as the Sunday School Curriculum Coordinator for many years. She could be seen most Sundays dressed immaculately in bright colors and greeting anyone she could find in the entryway. Mary lived in the house that she and Al built in 1967 up until her death. Anyone who knew Mary long enough eventually was invited to sit with her on the front porch and watch the sunset on a warm summer evening. After her relationship with Jesus Christ, nothing was more important to Mary in her life than the people in it, namely her family. Nothing gave Mary more joy in life than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mary is survived by her husband, Al; her son, Brian (Lynne); her daughter, Melanie (Joe); her seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Michael. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, 333 Kaiser Rd. NW, Olympia, WA 98502. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Olympia Union Gospel Mission. Please leave condolences or share memories and photos on the Tribute Wall to the left.
