John Elmer Meek

John Elmer Meek passed away September 15, 2021, in Olympia, Washington. He was born in Montesano, Washington, on November 30, 1929, to Emery and Dorothy (Dagnen) Meek, and was one of four children. He married Margaret Grace Huffman on March 16, 1951, and together they had seven children. John began working as a young boy on his aunt and uncle’s dairy farm, and then decided to give logging a try and it stuck. John also developed properties, creating several housing developments. He finally retired in his 80s from a business that he loved. He was proud to have his three sons working alongside him. John/Dad/Grandpa had a twinkle in his eye, many one-liners, and never met a stranger. He enjoyed taking Sunday drives; eating vanilla ice cream cones, especially soft serve; looked forward to his trips to Alaska and Canada to hunt and fish; and later in life, he loved the trips he took with his wife and kids. He was an avid Blackjack player, and loved playing whether he was winning or losing. John is survived by his siblings, Maxine (John) Vetter and Walter Meek; sons, Larry (Vera) Meek, Roy (Cathy) Meek; daughters, Joan (Miles) Naslund, Betty (Craig) Holt, and Barb (Marc) Mueller; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Meek; daughter, Diann Meek; son, John A. Meek; and his brother, Wayne Meek. There will be a celebration of John’s life on October 17, 2021, at Lacey Community Center, 6729 Pacific Ave. SE, Olympia, WA 98503. Social time/lunch at 12:00, program begins at 1:00 p.m. Masks will be required, per current guidelines.
