Caroline Spear

Caroline Kay Spear, age 62, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Hospice House in University Place WA. She recently suffered a recurrence of cancer from nine years ago. She was born May 25, 1957 in Chicago IL to William and Dorathy (Klingel) Kamphausen. She received a Bachelor degree from Pacific Lutheran University in 1980 followed by a Master’s in Education in 1992. Caroline moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1975 to attend PLU and fully embraced the outdoor lifestyle. She enjoyed hiking, biking, camping and kayaking with friends and family across the Pacific Northwest. A lifelong educator, Caroline worked in a variety of settings including residential camps, private and public schools, in New York, Rhode Island, California, Washington and Australia. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. She was always proud, present and interested in catching up with former students who are now across the globe. She is survived by her husband, Scott; son, Eric; sister, Dorathy; and brother, William. A memorial service will be held at St Mark’s Lutheran Church 6730 N 17th St Tacoma WA 98406 on Saturday January 25, 2020 at 2 pm. Flowers are welcome and or a contribution to your favorite teacher’s classroom.
