Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory
Lois Seglem
September 15th, 1927 - November 23rd, 2020
Lois Jean Chattam Seglem, 93, passed away on Monday, November 23, while under hospice care at her home at Brookdale Senior Living, Port Charlotte, Florida. She was born on September 15, 1927, in Winfield, Kansas, where she graduated from Winfield High School. She married Norman Nelson Seglem on July 11, 1945; they were together until his death on January 9, 1996, having celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary the previous July. After raising five boys, sometimes in the absence of their father while deployed with the US Navy, she worked in the Personal Services Department of the Naval Exchange Store in Virginia Beach. She was an avid reader. She was both a volunteer and participant at the Port Charlotte Cultural Center. She particularly enjoyed the big band performances which she attended as often as possible. She was a member of the Port Charlotte Church of Christ and enjoyed giving Dairy Queen gift cards to children of the church for their birthday or just because. Before physical activity became increasingly difficult, she enjoyed walking, card games, line dancing, and other activities. She loved a good hamburger and strawberry milkshake. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was both shy and outgoing, greeting others with a friendly smile. Her lovely and optimistic sense of humor will be sorely missed. She is survived by her sister Joan Boswell; sons Mark, Kevin, Wylie, and Ted (Colette); daughters-in-law June and Linda; grandchildren David, Douglas (Ana), Julie, Alexander (Kinsey), and Cooper Zimmer; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Earl Chattam, brother Charles, sister Aileen Fears, her son Eric, her husband Norman, and her daughter-in-law Elaine Woodbridge Seglem. Visitation is scheduled for 2:00 PM at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, November 30, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM.
