Larry Berkel
September 6th, 1944 - August 26th, 2021
Larry L. Berkel, residing in Punta Gorda, FL, went to be with his Lord at 76 years of age, on August 26. He was surrounded by loved ones, while in Hospice care at home. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marcia (nee Menefee) Berkel. Also survived by his son, Kevin Berkel (Kristen) and their 5 children, Cassandra, Nicholas, Travis, Nick, and Cody. His daughter Lisa Beiriger and her 3 children, Kyle, Andrew, and Joshua. Larry was born in E. St Louis, IL. He married Marcia, his high school sweetheart, right after high school and went on to New Haven, CT to attend The Culinary Institute of America, where he graduated with honors. Larry and Marcia moved to Punta Gorda, FL in 1986. Later he taught culinary courses at The Charlotte County VoTech and became a Captain in The Charlotte County Sheriff Reserves. After retirement they enjoyed multiple cruises around the world, were involved in the church, and developed many friendships in the community. Visitation is at 2pm, September 3rd, at Lutheran Church of The Cross in Deep Creek. Service begins at 3pm and later transition to Charlotte Memorial for a brief Entombment service. Additionally, the services will be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChCU03dCygiJgQwNj581GMA Any donations may be made to The Lutheran Church of The Cross or The American Cancer Society.
