Jessica Lynette Haynes

Jessica Lynette (Pettaway) Haynes affectionately known as “Beck” was born to Austin Harry Pettaway, Sr. and Jessie Lee Robinson Pettaway in Mobile, Alabama on December 9, 1954. In 1974, Jessica graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. She furthered her education at Tuskegee Institute majoring in Fashion Design. While at Tuskegee, Jessica met her soul mate, the ultimate love of her life, Booker Taliferro Haynes, Jr. The couple was joined in holy matrimony on December 31, 1977. Jessica accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a very young age at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. Subsequently, she lived a life of faithful service in various capacities with her children, in her community, in her careers, and in her church. For over ten years, Jessica served in many roles at St. Mary Primitive Baptist Church such as the following: Church Treasurer, Usher Board Advisor, and Mother of the Church. Jessica enjoyed living life to the fullest! Her most enjoyable activities included traveling with friends and family, watching basketball and football games, playing the casino slots, cruising to the islands, completing crossword puzzles, watching soap operas, and spending time with family and friends. In fact, Jessica considered her friends to be her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother (Austin H. Pettaway, Jr.), her grandson (Jediah A. Hall), and her husband. Leaving to cherish her loving memories, her valuable wisdom, her beautiful smile, and her infectious laugh are her children: Booker T. Haynes, III and Jessie Lee Haynes; her grandchildren: (Ty’Quenius E. Haynes and Ty’Rique T. Haynes); her siblings: LeBaron D. Pettaway, Sr. (Phyllis), Deirdre P. Howard, Derrick O. Pettaway, Sr. (Gwendolyn), and Joyvita Pettaway; her sisters-in-law: Cafronia Thomas (Abraham) and Theola Ray. Additionally, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and the Golden Girls.
