Douglas M Crawford

Douglas Marshall Crawford, 88, Deep Creek, FL, passed away on August 21, 2022. He was born June 26,1934 in Cleveland OH, the son of Herbert and Minnie Crawford. He was a member of the U.S. Army from January 1953 to 1955. In the mid 1960's, he became a commercial insurance agent working for Pearl Insurance located in Peoria Heights, IL where he enjoyed a successful career for nearly 40 years. He was a longtime resident of Varna, IL residing in Lake Wildwood (a boating community) before retiring to Florida in 1995. During his retirement years he enjoyed spending the summer in Minocqua, WI fishing and golfing, and then headed to Deep Creek, FL spending the winter in warmer weather to continue his golf game. He enjoyed cross word puzzles, playing cards, reading, fishing, golf and watching sports. He had a love for animals and was never without a dog. He enjoyed a good sense of humor and was a true salesman! He married Elizabeth (Lay) Crawford in 1970 and together they had four children. Doug is survived by his wife, son Paul Crawford, son Michael (Keri) Wall and daughter Cynthia (Wall) Milligan; son-in-law Dennis Martin, grandchildren Daniel (Aurora) Crawford who shares the same birthday as his grandfather, Chelsee Teater, Brenden (Erin) Wall, Kailyn Wall, Caitlyn Milligan and Michaela Milligan and great grandchildren Jaxon Crawford, Kaydence Teater and Nova Teater. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Carrie (Crawford) Martin and brother Dale Crawford. Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. at Charlotte Memorial located at 9400 Indian Spring Cemetery Rd. Punta Gorda, FL 33950. A Military Service and interment to follow at 12:30pm at Sarasota National Cemetery located at 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota FL 34241.
