Loren Wesley Shumate

Loren Wesley Shumate passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024, at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. He was born in Olympia on November 3, 1955, to William and Lila (Weaver) Shumate. He grew up alongside his siblings Larry Lee, Linda, and Leisa. Loren enjoyed being in Boy Scouts and was awarded an Eagle Scout Badge. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1973 and Washington State University in 1977. He was a proud Cougar. After enjoying memorable jobs working at a fish hatchery and Schwann’s, he found his calling working for the State of Washington in Corrections, first as a Juvenile Corrections Officer and then as Community Correctional Officer. He retired after 37 years working for the State of Washington. Loren loved rooting on the Cougs football team and the Seattle Mariners. He enjoyed cranking his tunes and taking long road trips. His favorite destinations included Southern California, amusement parks his daughters wanted to go to, Colorado, Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore, and to see the Mariners spring training in Arizona. Loren was so proud of his daughters, even as they both graduated as Huskies. He lovingly and dependably helped care for his brother and parents throughout their lives until they preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Tierney and Farren; his son-in-law, Chris; his nephews, Tim, Nathaniel, Josiah; and his sisters, Linda (Larry), and Leisa (David). A graveside service will be held Friday, April 12, 2024, 2:00 p.m. at Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA 98501.
