Lloyd LeRoy Crandall
June 9th, 1919 - March 2nd, 2018
Lloyd LeRoy Crandall passed away on 2 March 2018 at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Born on 9 June 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was the son of Lloyd and Cora (Tillett) Crandall. He married the love of his life, Elspeth Andrak, on 2 February 1944 in Tacoma, and they were married for 66 years when Elspeth passed away in 2010. Lloyd served his country in the military for over 20 years of active duty, earning numerous medals for his many accomplishments. He first joined the U.S. Army in 1937 and served through the end of World War II, including time in New Guinea and on the Philippine Islands. After a short time as a civilian, Lloyd joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948, and retired as a Major in 1960. One highlight during his distinguished career as an officer in the Air Force Military Police, Lloyd was standing guard at the end of the table during the signing of the armistice ending the Korean War. After his military retirement, Lloyd was employed at Boeing in Seattle, where he retired again in the early 1970s. In his retirement, Lloyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, rock hounding, traveling, and family history. He was predeceased by both of his parents, his brother, Charles Crandall, who died in 2005, and his sister, Gladys (Crandall) Anderson, who died in 2002. Lloyd is survived by his three children - sons, Thomas Crandall of Great Falls, Montana and Charles (Nancy) Crandall of Smyrna, Delaware; and daughter, Gail (Timothy) Nagengast of Des Moines, Washington; eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial service with full military honors will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
