Frances "Benson" May Woski
July 9th, 1924 - September 11th, 2017
Frances May (Benson) Woski passed away September 11, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Frances was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on July 9, 1924, to Arthur L. Benson and T. Mavie (Olson) Benson. Frances grew up in Hoquiam, Washington, graduating from Hoquiam High School in 1942, then going on to obtain her BA degree in Education at Western Washington University (Bellingham). Frances married Leonard F. Woski (Wlodazewski) in 1956, a 1942 Hoquiam graduate as well. Frances taught first grade at Washington Elementary (Hoquiam, 1954-1957), Quinault School (1957-1967), Boston Harbor Elementary (1967-1969), and Garfield Elementary School (1969-until her retirement). She enjoyed her volunteer involvement in the “Reading Program” at McLane Elementary School for many years, helping children with their reading skills. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for over 50 years. Frances and Leonard enjoyed traveling, usually on a cruise ship, which they enthusiastically embraced multiple times. They were able to experience many cultures around the world and acquaint themselves with interesting people, while immersing themselves in beautiful sites and history. Frances is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Leonard Woski of Centralia; her sister and best friend, Virginia (Dr. Carl) Kostol of Baker City, OR; daughters, Sharon N. White of Toledo, WA, Dawn Loftis of Woodland, WA, and Kristyn (Michael) Andrews of Chehalis, WA; three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews. Her husband, family and “students” were her life. Frances had such an influence on so many, and remained always a “teacher.” “A Teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart.” “A Teacher affects eternity; they can never tell where their influence stops.” ~ Henry Brook Adams Please leave memories of Frances or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
