Kenneth Blake Alger passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021, peacefully at home. Ken was born on February 22, 1937, in Provo, Utah. He started his military career early, at the age of 17, in the Army, where he immediately was shipped off to Korea. After three years in the Army, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and specialized as a radarman, spending most of his service time on various ice breakers, traveling around the World. He married Myrna Zahnow on October 1, 1964. They were stationed in Alameda, Seattle, Port Angeles, Yakima, Baltimore, and back to Washington over the years. They have two children, Marti and Kent. Ken retired from the Coast Guard in 1976, while living in Edmonds, WA. After ten years in various industries, Ken went back to the Coast Guard as a civilian, running the Vessel Traffic Center in Seattle. He had a remarkable Coast Guard career, retiring twice as a Master Chief with a total of 43 years of service. Ken’s passions were his wife, children, grandchildren, being a Godly man, and reading; even having authored a short story on Kindle. He loved reading the Bible and his favorite scripture was Psalm 91. Ken and Myrna loved road trips, bowling together, attending church, spending a lot of time with family and grandkids, staying active, and creating a lovely home. He was well-loved by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Myrna Alger (Zahnow); children Kent and Marti (Thomas), son-in-law Clint, daughter-in-law Rhonda (Hopkins); grandchildren Blake Beard, Khloe and Gage Alger; and his sister, MarRene Moulton of Spanish Fork, Utah. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you find a group in your community to volunteer your time to or donate to your favorite charity in Ken’s memory.
