Jack Marvin Crabs passed away on April 18, 2014 at St. Peter hospital in Olympia, WA following a long battle with multiple myeloma. Jack was born to Dulcie and Ray Crabs at their home in Puyallup, WA on November 23, 1927. Jack graduated from Puyallup High School in 1945, joined the US Navy and was a veteran of World War II. After completing his military service, Jack studied architecture at the University of Washington and graduated in 1952 at the top of his class. After practicing architecture for 5 years, Jack returned to the University of Washington and entered medical school, earning his MD degree in 1962. In 1953, Jack married Marlys Jean Stave, also from Puyallup. Together, they raised five children while Jack finished medical school, completed residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and started a medical practice in Olympia in 1966. In addition to practicing medicine, Jack took on many architectural projects, including designing his own office building near St. Peter Hospital. He also served as panel chair with Western Institutional Review Board from 1971 until 2013. Jack loved life; especially skiing, tennis, historical literature, attending UW Husky football games, travel and celebrations with his long-time circle of friends who were incredibly special to him. Jack and Marlys were married for 61 years. Jack and his love for family, friends and life will be missed by many. He is survived by Marlys, their 5 children – Dean, Russ (Kris), Karl (Corinne), Sara (Gurion) and Lia (Dale), their 10 grandchildren, and Jack’s brother Richard.
