Ronald Michael “Mike” Doggett passed away April 24, 2015 in Lacey, Washington at age 76. He was born February 11, 1939 to Ralph and Iva (Mills) Doggett in Shelby, Montana. Mike grew up in Sunburst, Montana, spent time in the U.S. Army, and worked as an engineer for the state of Washington for 30 years before retiring in 1996. He was a 50-year resident of Olympia, Washington. Mike loved golf and playing a new course was always met with enthusiasm. He loved watching his grandsons play sports and visiting family members both near and far. Mike enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble, gardening, crossword puzzles, painting, and all things chocolate. Mike had a kind heart and wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed the crowds of family, but liked returning to his own house for quiet time in his chair. He loved tending to his garden and sharing his harvest. He was generous with his time and put the needs of others ahead of his own. There were always enough treats in the trunk for all the neighborhood kids, making sure to never leave anyone out. While animals loved him, he only loved them if they belonged to someone else. Mike always had a choice word or two on the golf course and if someone took too long to take a picture they heard about it. He loved a good beer with his Seahawks and was a Mariner’s fan, but more than anything he was his grandsons’ biggest fan. The time he spent with his grandsons and family was invaluable and will be greatly missed. Mike is survived by his daughter, Deena Beard of Lacey; stepdaughter, Kathey Carlson of Olympia; stepson, Ken Ertman of Oakland, California; brothers, John Doggett of Texas, Jerry Doggett of Wyoming; Charles Doggett of Florida; sisters, Doris Keil of Montana and CeCe Collins of Texas; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Robert Doggett; and sisters, Laura Stevenson, Iva Stomsvic and Maxine Tracht. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local youth baseball organization or charity of your choice. Please leave memories of Mike or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
