Dr. Donald E. Ferguson, MD, a long-time resident of Casper, Wyoming, died January 7, 2015, after surviving many years with advanced pulmonary disease. He was the beloved husband of Joycelyn (Wilson) Ferguson. Dr. Ferguson was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 28, 1933, and raised in the shadow of Grand Coulee Dam in Washington State. He was the son of Ewing and Irene Ferguson and brother of Shirley (Ferguson) Doran. He graduated from Whitworth College in Spokane and the University of Washington Medical School. He worked for the U.S. Public Health Service in Alaska, completed a year of surgical residency in the Canal Zone, Panama, and served for a year under the Board of National Missions of the Presbyterian Church in Embudo, New Mexico. He then completed his urology residency in Minnesota before settling in Casper in 1968. He practiced urology at Casper Clinic for many years. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of numerous other professional organizations. Wyoming was home, and he valued the people and cherished the natural beauty of the state. He returned to Washington State in 2012 to be at a lower altitude. Besides his loving wife of 53 years, he is survived by his four children, David of New York, Daniel (and wife Tia) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Carolyn (and husband Mark) of Manhattan, Kansas, and Julia of Saratoga, California; his five granddaughters, Sara, Wendy, Clara, Parker and Helen; and his sister, Shirley Doran of Singer Island, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any contributions be sent to the Whitworth Fund for scholarship at Whitworth University, Spokane, Washington.
