Emilia Cappa

Emilia Cappa July 22, 1913- June 7, 2010 Emilia was born to Francesco and Luigina Santelli in Aprigliano Cosenza, Calabria Italy. She passed away peacefully at the University Place Franciscan Hospice with her daughters Palmira and Santina by her side. Emilia married Francesco Carino and joined him in his tailoring business while raising their daughters in Cosenza. Upon her husband's early death, Emilia took over the business specializing in men's shirts and children's apparel. In 1959, Emilia moved to Tacoma joining Palmira and later marrying Albert Cappa setting roots in Fife. Soon, Santina moved to Tacoma as well. Albert and Emilia enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage cultivating their farm and spending time with their grandchildren. Emilia is preceeded in death by her parents; husbands Francesco and Albert; sister Elvira; sons-in-law Albert Mazzuca and James Nordi as well as her great-grandaughter Emily Henderson. She will be lovingly remembered by daughters Palmira Mazzuca, Santina Nordi; sisters Anna Rende, Emma Pistone; grandchildren Sonia Lewis (Mark); Sandra Henderson (Jim); Nancy Fromong (Mark) and Larry Nordi (Cori); great-grandchildren Marisa Ranes (Justin), Brian Lewis, Andrew Schroeder, Ethan Henderson and Jacob Henderson, Alex Fromong, Kate Fromong and Mario Nordi; great-great grandson Gavin Ranes, and extended family in Italy. A celebration of her life will begin with a Rosary on Thursday, June 10 at 7:00pm at Piper-Morley-Mellinger Funeral Home 5436 So. Puget Sound Ave., Tacoma, WA 98409. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, June 11 at 10:30am at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 1403 So. Ainsworth, Tacoma, WA 98405. The family extends their thanks to Dr. Demirjian and the staff at the Fransiscan Hospice in University Place.
