Funeral Alternatives of Washington - Tumwater
Richard "Rick" A. Horn
Rick passed away April 2, 2014 in Lacey, Washington, at the age of 84. He was born January 5, 1930, to Lucille and Alexander Horn in Detroit, Michigan. Rick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1967 after 18 years. He was proud of his military service and always wore a cap proclaiming his Veteran status. After the military, he had various jobs, including maintenance supervisor of student housing at Evergreen State College for 16 years, and a greeter at WSECU until 2006. He married Barbara Smith on August 31, 2010 in Olympia, and welcomed her children into his life. Rick enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, spending time at the beach, watching movies, rock hounding, and listening to music of all types; his musical tastes were very eclectic. He was also a huge sports fan, especially of Seattle’s professional teams, the Sonics, Mariners, and Seahawks. In addition, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was camping or supporting their many activities. He especially loved watching his grandson, Richard, play football for the Pe Ell team, and would travel long distances at night to support him. Rick is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith Horn; her children, including Steven Baker and Paula Nute and her husband Mickey, who helped care for him in his later years; daughter, Cheryl Chatman of Dayton, Washington; first wife of 40 years, Sharon Linderson Horn, and her children whom he adopted and loved as his own, John Horn of Tumwater and Marta Pier of Pe Ell; daughter-in-law, Wendy Horn of Lacey (widow of adopted son James Horn who died in December 2013); grandchildren, A.J. Biddle of Dayton, Richard Cassou of Lacey, Nicole Horn of Olympia, and Patty (A.J.) Rogers of Alaska; and great granddaughters, Jillian Biddle of Dayton and Harmony Schray of Alaska. Please leave memories of Rick or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
