He attended Woden-Crystal Lake schools. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army for three years–basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, AIT at Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma. The remainder of his duty was spent in Wesel, Germany. Randy married the love of his life, Joellen Heimer on May 31, 1974. In 1986, Randy moved his family to Olympia, Washington, where he lived for 28 years. He was born with Klippel-Feil syndrome, blew up when wife left gas on to light the oven, gas tank explosion, electric shock in basement full of water, run over by a car, heart transplant, severe pancreatitis, cancer, and renal failure.
