Dorsey Longmire

Dorsey Longmire Dorsey, great-grandson of James Longmire, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2013 in Costa Mesa, California. He was born October 19, 1924 on the Yelm prairie to Elcaine and Olga(Jungwirth) Longmire. He served in World War II at the coastal defense in San Francisco, was stationed with a combat unit in Europe, and was preparing for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. After the war, Dorsey pursued a career in architecture, graduating from the University of Washington in June of 1952. He held positions as Architect and City Planner in Gladstone, Oregon and Savannah, Illinois, later working 10 years for Sacramento State University. He relocated the family to Arcata, California, where he worked an additional 10 years for Humboldt State University before opening his own architectural firm in Eureka, California. He designed everything from churches, restaurants, jails, homes, hotels, shopping centers, brewery and milking barns until he retired at the age of 85. Surviving are his wife, Elisabeth; daughters Carrie Scharf, Holly Meyer and Annette Croul; grandchildren Amanda, Robert, Dustin and Natalie; his niece Billie Cox of Olympia; and step-sons Claus and Stefan. Dorsey loved to tell jokes, laugh at jokes, tell stories of his Longmire family history, garden, dance, and socialize. He will be missed so much by his family and friends.
