Paul R McBride, Sr., 77, passed away March 13, 2015 at Retsil VA, in Port Orchard, Washington. He was born March 28, 1937 in The Dalles, Oregon to Loren and Hazel (Stiff) McBride. He graduated from Baker City High School in 1956, and attended Midwestern State University. He completed Ministerial Studies in 1973. Paul served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1969, during the Vietnam War. He married Luann Lester on September 5, 1987 in Longview, Washington. Over the years, Paul also lived in Olympia, Washington (1997-2013), Yuma, Arizona (1991-1997), Port Townsend, Washington (1987-1991), Puget Island (1981-1987), and Poulsbo, Washington (1979-1981). Paul was a minister in the Church of the Nazarene for over 30 years. Previously, while stationed with the Air Force in Okinawa, he worked with Far East Broadcasting Company, producing radio programs. His avocation was that of a house painter, commercial and residential, which usually included repairs. His wife stated, “He was so meticulous that he could paint a living room wearing a tux.” He was a member of the Washington Pacific District Church of the Nazarene, United States Lighthouse Society, and VFW. Paul loved his family and his church, enjoyed traveling, gardening (especially his berry patch), baking pies and cookies, and treating family and friends to his Gourmet Mac Chex Mix and Orange/Chocolate Fudge. He loved music and had been a Choir Director, Soloist and sang Tenor in a Quartet. Two particular scriptures from the Bible were often memorized and recited by his church congregations: Philippians 1:20- “My deep desire and hope is that I shall never fail my duty, but that at all times, and especially right now, I shall be full of courage so that with my whole being, I shall bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.” Jeremiah 33:3- “Call unto Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Paul is survived by his wife, Luann L. McBride of Olympia; son, Paul R. McBride II of Sacramento, California; daughters, Jacquie McBride of Tualatin, Oregon, and Leilani McBride of Redlands, California; grandchildren, Jayme, Jante’, Charles, Harold, Halle, and Keli; great grandchildren, Kaiden, Reyla, and Khobe; brothers, Don McBride of Nampa, Idaho, and Delbert McBride of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister, Helen Melchisedeck of Pasco, Washington. He was predeceased by his parents; grandparents, Robert Duncan Alexander McBride and Eleanor May Owens; wife, Kay McBride; sister, Rosie Foust; and brother, Rex McBride. Because of Paul’s great love for God’s WORD, the family is encouraging those who wish to make a donation in his name consider The Gideons International, PO Box 3913, Lacey, WA 98509-3913. Psalm 119:103-104a – “How sweet are Thy words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! From Thy precepts I get understanding.” Please leave memories of Paul or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
