Joyce Lee Newman passed away October 14, 2015 in Olympia, Washington. She was born May 22, 1937 to Andrew A. and Jean E. Newman in Butte, Montana. She graduated from William Winlock Miller in 1954. Joyce worked for various Washington State agencies. She retired from the Washington Liquor Board in 1992. Joyce enjoyed many different crafts and was a major gardener. She also had a great love for animals, whether a pet or animals in the wild. She especially loved her cats, dogs, and a turtle she found walking down the street. Joyce was a shopper and always took her dog, Annie, with her. All the clerks knew Joyce and Annie. Joyce is survived by her sons, Doug Makoviney of Olympia, and Shane Makoviney of Shelton, Washington; daughter, Kerry Christal of Vancouver, Washington; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; and sister, Judith R. Petersen of Olympia. Her parents and brother, Ray Newman, predeceased her.
