Rachel L. Robinson
August 25th, 1926 - September 14th, 2016
Rachel Lena Robinson was born in Old Town Tacoma September 25, 1926 to George and Rokalena Bartich. Rachel grew up in the local Croatian community attending St. Patrick's Elementary and Aquinas Academy. Following WWII she met and married William Brennan Robinson (Robbie) in April 1946. Rachel became a military wife traveling to Germany twice and living on Army bases across the United States. The Robinsons had 3 sons (Jack, Scott and Patrick) and one daughter (Toni). Upon the Robbie's military retirement the family came home to Steilacoom, WA. At this time Rachel began her own career as a cook (extraordinaire) at Child Study and Treatment Center for the next 22 years. After her retirement she traveled primarily around the Northwest and California with her family (especially Toni and Patrick) and friends. For many years she had monthly lunches with the "Old Town Gals". She loved to cook; she had an entire library of cookbooks which she continued to read after she no longer prepared meals. Rachel and Robbie were married 63 years before Robbie's death in 2009. The family would like to thank Evelyn Barbero and her staff at Serenity Manor Adult Family Home for the wonderful care they have provided the last three years. Rachel is survived by her sons: Jack, Scott (Mikel Ann) and Patrick, her son-in-law: Brent, her grandchildren: Nicole (Dave), Jessica (Roe), Nick (Porshia) and Jack/JB (Amy) and 6 great- grandchildren: Ikale, Nathan, Brennan, Ikyllies, Sarah and Mackenzie. She was predeceased by her husband William (Robbie), her parents, George and Rokalena Bartich, her brothers: Mitch, George, and Vince and daughter Toni Marie Weitman. A planned 90th birthday party will become a celebration of Rachel's life to be held on October 1, 2016 at the Slavonian Hall (2306 North 30th Street) between 4 and 8 PM. Contact Scott or Mikel Ann for more information.
