John George Pittman
John Pittman, 67, passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2014 in Olympia, Wash. He was born on January 17, 1946 at Fort Lewis, Wash. to George and Grettie (Swensen) Pittman. John spent his first few years in Germany with his father’s military deployment. (They were there with occupational forces at end of WWII.) He grew up in Auburn, Wash., graduating from Auburn High School in 1964. John went on to graduate from Pacific Lutheran University in 1969 with a degree in accounting and soon found a successful career in state government. He retired from the Dept. of Revenue in 2001, after 31 years as a Revenue Auditor and Field Audit Manager. After retirement, John worked part-time for the department determining budgetary fiscal impact of new legislation. He dedicated 28 years of volunteer service to Washington State Employees Credit Union, including as an elected member of the Supervisory Committee, the Board of Directors and numerous other committees. He was also a volunteer with the Sandman Tugboat Restoration Foundation. The impact of John’s professional, personal and volunteer work leaves a significant legacy and many caring friends and family who will deeply miss him. John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael. He is survived by his long-time companion, Sue Morris of Olympia; his brother, Jerry Pittman (Cindy); and nephews, Chris and Andy of Castle Rock; Sue’s son, Jeff Morris (Ruth); and granddaughter, Maria of Kenmore. John loved hunting, fishing and trap shooting. His favorite times were salmon fishing with buddies Les, Wes and Lee at Seiku. His last and best fishing trip was in Alaska with brother Jerry. “Always in our hearts.” Donations may be made in John’s memory to The Sandman Foundation, 4312 Cleveland Ave., Tumwater, WA 98501.
