Patrick "Shakey Jack" L. Powell
December 5th, 1928 - August 3rd, 2016
“Shakey” Jack Powell—born Patrick L. Powell in Montesano, Washington on December 5, 1928—died on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from complications of C.O.P.D. Jack was the last surviving of six children (four boys and two girls) born to John and Gladys Powell of Montesano. Jack graduated from Montesano High School in 1946 and, after working for Weyerhauser, began making cedar shakes and shingles, first with partner Dale Post and later with his own company, Powell Enterprises Inc. At the time of his death, Jack was a well-known resident of McCleary, Washington. Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Powell of McCleary; and by his children, Kathryn Brooke and Mitchell Powell (by former wife, Dorothy Powell). Jack was predeceased by his favorite step-daughter, Denise Hart. He will be missed by nieces, Jennifer Russell, Patti Grah and Julie Gill; and nephews, Bob Roger and Mike Burton. Jack’s grandchildren, Matthew Keith, Patrick Powell and Trevor, Tim and Ken Stenek survive him, along with nine and one-half great grandchildren and multitudes of great-nieces and nephews. Jack made Joyce (and everyone around him) laugh every day. He will be greatly missed. Please leave memories of Jack or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
