Barbara Jeanne Schwartz

Barbara passed away November 24, 2014 in Olympia, Washington, at the age of 82. She was born January 22, 1932 to Charles and Helen (Nelson) McCarter in Spokane, Washington. Over her lifetime, Barbara lived in several Washington cities, including Olympia, Spokane, Bremerton and Aberdeen. During World War II, she lived in China. Barbara was a lively lady, who had amazingly youthful skin and beautiful blue eyes that always conveyed her happiest emotions and love for her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor, which she used in all situations, and could easily laugh at herself. She was a homemaker who enjoyed volunteer work; she was a docent at the Washington State Governor’s Mansion from the mid-1980s to early 2000s. She loved sewing, stained glass, cooking, camping, traveling, gardening and being able to recall trivia and/or facts from just about any topic category. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed jazz, big-band, and upbeat classical music, which seemed to motivate her and those around her. She delighted in family gatherings and was the “glue” that held her family together. Barbara is survived by son, Gregory Schwartz of Carnation, Washington; daughters, Diane Stong of Lynwood, Washington, Gale Harrison of Orting, Washington, and Deborah Brunskill of Olympia, Washington; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and sister, Linda Whitcomb of Spokane, Washington.
