Norma "Brown" Joan Scott
Norma, our mother, born June 17, 1936 to John Jackson and Mary O. (Koonze) Brown was raised in Republic, Washington with her two brothers, John and David. She had many fond memories of her childhood there. She was married to Dale E. Scott (deceased) for 35 years. They were married on December 23, 1972 in Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island, Washington. They resided in Ohio for some time but made their home in Littlerock, Washington for many years at what was called the “BS Ranch.” Our Mother was an inspiration with her amazing spirit. She was fun loving, resilient, and had an infectious smile and an unforgettable laugh. In recent years, illnesses have plagued our family. Mom, with her strong spirit, inspired us to carry on and look forward. She faced her bladder cancer with hope and courage, even when complications made her so ill she was hospitalized. Even then, she continued treatment until her body could not tolerate the regimen any longer. She inspired her son and daughter to be strong, courageous, and look forward with hope during their own cancer treatments. Norma passed away November 22, 2013. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dale Eugene Scott; her son, Dennis Ray Hilderbrandt; mother, Mary Oversby Kenney; father, John Jackson Brown; and younger brother, David Kenney. She is survived by five children: Deborah Lee Knotts, Richard Wayne and Douglas Wade Page, Robin (Mark) Burkhart, and Deborah (Stuart) Bessey. She has 14 grandchildren: Jenna (Dustin) Fowler, Justin (Ana) Smith, James (Erin) Smith, Mini Knotts, Rachel and Jacob Burkhart, Alexa (Dan) Nickol, Nathan Page, Montgomery and Chad Hilderbrandt, Carrie Hilderbrandt, Garrick and Christopher Blackstock and Amy Vela. She has 16 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) (www.bcan.org), or Relay for Life of Thurston County–The Cupcake Mafia (www.relayforlife.org). Please leave memories of Norma or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
