Daniel Delos Smith
April 8th, 1953 - May 18th, 2016
Daniel Delos Smith, 63, passed away May 18, 2016 due to cardiac arrest with his family at his side in Olympia, Washington. He was born April 8, 1953 to Marion and Ruth (Bortz) Smith in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. He lived in Rainier, Washington the past 13 years. Dan married Sandra Kay Meyer on July 16, 2004 in Wenatchee, Washington. A machinist by trade, he worked as Lead Planner in Manufacturing Engineering for The Boeing Company, from which he retired. He was a member of the NRA. Dan was a joker and prankster. He loved doing things to make people laugh. He was very quick witted and anyone who did something silly gave him ammo for a witty response. He loved working on his Harley, building a three-wheeler, woodworking, gardening, camping in his motorhome, and spending time with his wife, Sandy, and his dogs, Buddy and Emma. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dan is survived by his wife, Sandra K. Smith; son, Daniel D. “DJ” Smith Jr.; daughter, Jennifer Lashua; four grandchildren; brothers, Marion Smith Jr. of Oak Harbor, Washington, and William Smith of Pennsylvania; and sisters, Ruth Smith of West Virginia, and Marian Collier of Maryland. He was predeceased by his parents; and baby sister Smith. Dan would probably like every family to just love and enjoy each other because as he said to anyone who would listen, “Your life can change in eight hours.” He will be missed terribly by us all, especially his ever constant companion, Buddy, his Great Dane service dog. Please leave memories of Dan or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
