Donald A. Szabo
July 8th, 1938 - June 20th, 2015
Donald A. Szabo, 76, passed away June 20, 2015, after a long, brave battle with cancer. Don was born July 8, 1938 to Alec and Marie Szabo in Richfield Township, Michigan. He served in the US Army where he rose to the rank of Sargent E-5, Communications Specialist. His military career took him around the globe, serving in Germany, Okinawa and Vietnam. While stationed at Fort Lewis, Don met Norma Chaffee of Chehalis. They were married on July 2, 1962. Together, Don and Norma made their home in Chehalis, Washington, and raised five children. They were partners in marriage and in their careers. Don drove truck and pulled manufactured homes, while Norma led the way as a pilot car driver until their retirement two years ago. Don was known by those closest to him as a kind, patient, and loving man. His passion was his family, which was the central focus of his life and his greatest source of pride. This family included his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He also enjoyed nature, including fishing, camping, and caring for animals. Don leaves behind many family and friends who will miss his presence in their lives. He is survived by his wife, Norma Szabo; sons, Donald Wehle, Donald Szabo Jr. and Jeremy Szabo; daughters, Christina Smith, Michelle Weston, and Amanda Szabo; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and sisters, Fayrene Brancheau, Marla Shoecraft, and Marva Wade. Please leave memories of Don or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
