Audrey M. Vandeventer

Audrey M. Vandeventer Audrey M. Vandeventer of Olympia went with the angels on May 24, 2013. She was born September 6, 1921 in Parkwater, Washington to William and Edythe Mack Rehmer. Audrey attended school in Missoula, Montana, achieving diplomas in 1939 from Sacred Heart Academy (music) and Missoula County High School. In 1942, Audrey completed the nursing course of study from St. Therese Hospital (DePaul University) in Waukegan, Illinois. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy the next year and proudly served as a nurse and officer during WWII. Audrey continued to serve her country, caring for veterans at Ft. Harrison in Helena, Montana. She was chosen to receive a federal grant, which resulted in a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1963 from Carroll College. Audrey’s quiet courage and deep faith in God made her a woman of outstanding character; she never simply chose the easiest way, but instead always stood up for what she believed in. She was passionately devoted to her family and anyone that was privileged to know her was touched by her loving kindness, sweetness, and gentle spirit. Survivors include daughter, Jan Tangen (Jim) of Beaverton, Oregon; son, Kip Vandeventer (Lynda) of Gig Harbor; and daughter, Judy O’Looney (Bill Cogswell) at the family home in Olympia. She loved her grandchildren, Jamie and Jason Tangen, Jill Sturrock (Kyle), Michael Vandeventer (Bridget), and Kate Manley (Aaron). Audrey was also blessed with six great grandchildren. We are deeply grateful to those that helped care for her, including her doctor, Samantha Ritchie. Donations may be made to The Salvation Army, Concern for Animals, or Thurston County Humane Society.
