Corey Sorrels Wardlow
June 23rd, 1975 - January 10th, 2016
Corey Sorrels Wardlow passed from this world on January 10, 2016 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA from the side effects of chemo. Corey was born in Longview, WA on June 23, 1975 to Cindy and Jack Wardlow of Kelso, WA, along with his identical twin, Jesse of Kelso. He graduated from Kelso High School in 1993 and married his high school sweetheart, Marcia Fultz of Pasco, WA one year later. They had two beautiful daughters, Madelin of Kennewick, now age 17, and Jillian of Pasco, now 15, whom they lovingly co-parented after the marriage ended. Corey had many jobs during his lifetime, starting as a teenager working summers for his aunt, Sandy Sorrels, in her restaurants in La Grande, OR. In high school, he worked at Dominos in Longview, then after graduating, as a parts manager for Bud Clary. After Marcia finished nursing school, the young couple and their baby daughter moved to LaGrande, where Corey worked as a manager at Mamacita’s restaurant. After nearly six years at Mamacita’s, he decided to try farming and got a job working with his other “twin,” Brett Rudd on their family farm outside of LaGrande. It was a job that he loved, looking forward to waking up early, running machinery, and being in the outdoors. But his two most rewarding jobs were taking care of his Grandpa Don during the last two years of his life, and parenting his beloved daughters. Corey loved to snowboard, having learned to ski and snowboard as a child at Anthony Lakes Ski Area where the family still has a cabin. He continued to board until poor health intervened. He also passionately played video games daily with his good friend, Dave Moore of LaGrande and his brother, Jesse. He was an avid gardener, growing beautiful corn, tomatoes and peppers in his back yard. Corey liked to laugh, and worked hard at keeping a positive attitude, even as his health declined. Along with his daughters, parents, and brother, Corey leaves behind his sister, Jacklyn Wardlow of Granite Falls, WA; his grandmother, Shirley Sorrels of Haines, OR; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Corey was proceeded in death by his grandfather, Don Sorrels; grandmother, Erma Heiser; and grandfather, Clyde Wardlow. Memorial donations may be made to the Kelso Schools Foundation at PO Box 344, Kelso, WA 98626, for an Agricultural Scholarship in Corey’s name. Please leave memories of Corey or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
