John Adelbert Hubbard

John Adelbert Hubbard John was born on August 5, 1940 in Bremerton, Washington and passed away on January 23, 2019 in Gig Harbor. He is survived by his loving wife Malee, 2 sisters Veronica Faircloth and Joann Larious and daughters Sharon Liljemark, Shirley Tallent, Shelley Richards, Michelle Koster and Malessa Hubbard. John had 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son John J. Hubbard. John retired in 1978 as a Sergeant First Class from the U.S. Army after 20 years of serving our country. During this time he received several commendations and medals including a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters and a Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star. After retirement from the service, he immediately pursued his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Economics at Western Oregon University. Upon completion of his masters in 1985, he spent time as an Instructor of Economics at the University. In 2001, John retired from his job with the USOPM Office of Federal Investigations. John was named one of the top ten Investigators in the United States but declined their offer to continue as a consultant in Washington, D.C. after his retirement. John was a Master Mason and was raised in Augsburg, Germany. At the time of his passing John was a member of Woodland-Kalama Masonic Lodge #17. He belonged to several Masonic organizations and went on to become a Past Master, a Past Patron and in 2010, Afifi Shrine Potentate. He was also involved with several Shriners clubs and loved promoting the Shriners Hospitals for Children. As the great-great-great grandson of Chief Leschi of the Nisqually tribe of the Pacific Northwest, John was very proud of his native American heritage and made sure his children understood the importance their ancestry. John and Malee met in California in 1994, and together returned to his home state of Washington in 2000, residing in Vancouver. He loved history, traveling, exploring the world around him and spending time with his family and friends. John touched many lives and will be missed. He will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. A Memorial Service will be held on February 16, 2019 at Horace Tyler Masonic Lodge at 2:00 p.m. in University Place in Tacoma, WA.
