Earl Charles Groshart
August 8th, 1931 - December 28th, 2017
Earl Charles Groshart, 86, passed away December 28, 2017 in Tacoma, Washington. He was born August 8, 1931 to Leon Earl and Oma (Bankston) Groshart in Alamosa, Colorado. Over the years, he also resided in Federal Way, Washington (1959-1977), Lake Tapps, Washington (1977-2010), and at Point Defiance Village in Tacoma for the last seven years (2010-2017). Earl graduated from Napa High School in June 1949, earned an AA from Napa College (1954), and BA from Sacramento State (1956). He served in the U.S. Air Force (8/22/1949 to 1/15/1953), stationed in Iceland, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, and Algiers. He retired as a tech sergeant. He then worked as a chemist at McClellan Air Force Base (1953-1959). He worked as a chemical engineer at Boeing (1959-1999), where he also taught; taught at various colleges; and wrote monthly articles for Metal Finishing Magazine. He was awarded a Tech Fellowship and Senior Tech Fellow from Boeing. After the dissolution of his first marriage to Verna Elizabeth Dority, he married Linda Jane McAllister on June 24, 1977 and they enjoyed a wonderful 40 years together. Earl enjoyed painting, gardening and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Linda McAllister Groshart; son, Charles Milton Groshart of Tacoma; daughters, Gerri Lynn Fassett (Kevin) of Chicago, Illinois, and Jennifer Roberts (Ben) of Australia; five grandchildren; and sister, Zoe Timmins of Colorado.
