Hugh Morris Bennett
April 23rd, 1923 - December 15th, 2016
Hugh Morris Bennett, 93, of Englewood, completed his service to the Lord Thursday December 15, 2016 while in home Hospice care. He was born April 23, 1923 in Interlaken, New York to the late C. Morris and Ethel Brodie Bennett. Hugh served as a radioman aboard a B-24 Bomber crew in the 8th Army 491st Bomber Group based out of England during WWll. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, FL and served as a volunteer at Englewood Hospital for over 14 years. He was a long-time resident of Springville, New York, retired from the Buffalo Ford Stamping Plant over 31 years ago, and then moved to Florida. He was a Past Master Mason. Hugh was a member of the Living Stone Lodge # 255 F & AM of Colden, New York and the Arcade Chapter # 322 Royal Arch Masons in Pike, New York. Locally, he was a member of Englewood Lodge #360 F&AM, a 32 Degree member of the Valley of Ft. Myers Scottish Rite Bodies, Sahib Temple Shrine, O.E.S. # 61 Englewood Chapter 300, and Order of Amaranth. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. Post 5260; a member of the American Legion Post 431 both in Springville, New York. He is survived by his loving wife of fourteen years: Bernice Bennett of Englewood, four children: Sharon (Mark) LaRue of Glendale, Arizona, Bradley (Denise) Bennett of Independence, Kentucky, Deaune (Kenneth) Cuedek of Chesterfield, Virginia, Melinda (Michael) Loftus of Independence, Kentucky and his step-children: Tom (Anita) Cheske of Sarasota, Florida, Diane (Phil) Jelen of Elgin, Illinois; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Brian H. Bennett: two brothers: Robert, John and four sisters: Jean, Helen, Phyllis and Alice. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 1 PM until 3 PM and 6 PM until 8 PM at the Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 South McCall Road. A Masonic Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Springville, New York.
