Roberta Kay Thielen

Roberta Kay Thielen, 70, of Rotonda West, Florida passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at her Charlotte County residence. Born October 13, 1940 in Cincinnati Ohio, Bobbie had been a Florida resident for 17 years, coming from Cincinnati. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse, having served her entire career at Holms Hospital/University Hospital University of Cincinnati, in Cincinnati. During her career, she was the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of her ability as a nurse and administrator and of her devotion to her profession. She was an accomplished artist, preferring to work in pen and ink landscapes. A life-long athlete, she loved golf and was most proud of her membership in the mythical "Hole in One Club" (June 27,2007), Bobbie also had a great love of music, especially Broadway and jazz, and in her prime, she could present an especially fetching rendition of Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust" on the trumpet. While living in Rotonda West, Bobbie was a member of both the American Legion Post 113 Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10476. She was especially proud to have held several offices in the American Legion Auxiliary, culminating with the honor to serve as the President of the unit in 2005-07. Bobbie was preceded in death by one of her lifetime companions, Grace Streithorst (2008) and her parents, Alfred and Dorothy Brakvill. She is survived by the other of her lifelong companions: Dorothy 'Dottie" Thomas of Rotonda West, FL; two brothers, Edwin "Skip" (Joyce) Thielen of Springfield, OH, Robert (Maribeth) Brakvill of Cincinnati, OH; three nieces: Jennifer Brakvill, Molly Sweeney, and Katie Owens, a nephew: Kirby Brakvill, all of Cincinnati, OH. Bobtrie is also survived by three God children: Katie (Mike) Owens of Cincinnatio OH; Brian (DeAnna) Buffington of Dallas, TX; and John (Jessie) Schneider of Cincinnati, OH. She will be dearly missed by many close friends the area, including Sherrie Guccini and "Dude" the cat. Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi - Memorial Garden,5265 Placida Road, Grove City FL at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 18,2011 followed by a memorial service and luncheon at the American Legion Post 113,3436Indiana Avenue Rotonda West, FL33947.
