Elma Ruth Wampler Sluss, 93 of Nickelsville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born on May 29, 1921 in Scott County, VA to the late Singleton and Goldie Gibson Wampler. After her marriage to Willard Sluss in 1944, she resided in Russell County all her married life. Elma lived a long life and will be remembered as a loving wife, mom, mamaw, daughter, sister and friend. She loved her garden and flowers and lovingly cared for them. Elma enjoyed sewing and quilting for her family and each immediate family member has a quilt as a memory of her. She enjoyed reminiscing about her early years and what has occurred during her lifetime. She attended Sabra Chapel Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, Willard Sluss; son, Russell Sluss; brothers, Aubrey and Jay; sisters, Imogene, Faye and Doris. Elma is survived by her sons, Roger (Dorothy) and Ronald (Margie); daughters, Kathy Tiller (Mike) and Kay Fields; grandchildren Jamie, Chet, Stephen, Ben and Kacy; great-grandchildren, Maddy, Jay, Jacob, Kylie, Jackson and Sierra; brother, Joe Wampler (Maxie); special friends, Janice, Ellen and Mary (the afternoon "hen party" group); several special nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014 at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, VA. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg Burton officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Temple Hill Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Pallbearers will be Jamie Sluss, Chet Sluss, Stephen Fields, Jim Wampler, David Wampler and Gary Cox. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sabra Chapel Church, PO Box 55, Castlewood, VA 24224. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Sluss family.
