C. E. Sykes

C. E. Sykes, 74 of Church Hill joined his mother in the presence of the Lord early Thursday (June 26, 2014) morning at his residence. He was born in Council, Virginia and had resided in Church Hill for the past 50 years. C.E. retired from Hawkins County School Systems as a Bus Driver. He was an accomplished Bluegrass Banjo player having played with several local groups. He most recently enjoyed teaching the love of music to his grandson, Nathan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe & Mary Sykes and an infant sister, Alice Pauline Sykes. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy Sykes of the home; his children, Rita Sykes, Lisa Sykes & husband Leonard Gorman and Greg Sykes & wife Anne; three grandchildren, Amber Edwards, Seth Elkins, and Nathan Sykes; two great grandchildren, Timothy Elkins and Isabella Long; a brother, Warner Sykes & wife Linda; sister-in-law, Loretta Lewis; along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 4 pm on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Souls Harbor Church of God, 206 Old Union Road, Church Hill, with Pastor Allen S. Jervey, officiating. The family will receive friends in the church following the service or friends may call anytime at the residence. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Sykes family.
