Odker Robert Wallen
November 19th, 1925 - May 30th, 2014
Odker R. Wallen, 88, of Rye Cove, went to be with the Lord (Friday May 30, 2014) at his home. Odker was a lifelong resident of Rye Cove, VA. He is best remembered as a hardworking, driven man who touched everyone who knew him. His humble and genuine character was admired by his family, friends and community. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Kingsport Foundry after 32 years of service. In his years after retirement, he could be found on a tractor, in a garden, in the hayfields, watching boxing, listening to bluegrass and spoiling his grandchildren and great granddaughters. All of these things brought him much joy in his life. Odker has been a superior role model to everyone; and known for his generosity and kindheartedness. He will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ollie Bishop Wallen; five sisters; three brothers and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Juanita Ashworth Wallen; daughter, Patricia Lane and husband Mike, Hiltons, Va; son, Keith Wallen and wife Regina, Rye Cove; four grandchildren, Brandon Lane, Elizabeth Quillen and husband Matthew, Brittney Maness and Breanna Wallen; two great grandchildren, Kimber and Willow Quillen; sister, Bonnie Pepper and sister in law, Myrtle Wallen and several nieces and nephews The family will receive friends from 4 till 7pm (June 1st, 2014) at Scott County Funeral Home or anytime at the home. A funeral service will follow at 7pm with Rev. Kevin Sanders and Rev. Mike Ervin officiating. Music will be provided by David and Deborah Easterling. A graveside service will be conducted at 11am Monday (June 2nd, 2014) at Holston View Cemetery with military graveside rites presented by the American Legion Post 3/ 265, assisted by the Virginia National Guard. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Those who plan to attend the graveside are asked to join the family and meet at the funeral home by 10:15 to follow in procession.
