Richard Taliaferro Massie
June 13th, 1949 - April 12th, 2014
Richard Taliaferro Massie Kingsport - Richard Taliaferro Massie was born on June 13, 1949, to Robert Walter and Mabel Gunter Massie. He passed away from this life on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the age of 64. Upon graduating from Hargrave Military Academy, Richard attended Lynchburg College earning a degree in Business Administration. Upon completion of his studies, Richard joined Pocahontas Crusher Company, Inc. where he last served as President. He was owner of RTM LLC. Richard was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved participating in Field Trials with his Black Labs. He was the owner of the The Bass Shop in Abingdon, Virginia. Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn Foulk Massie and his son, Nicholas Taliaferro Massie. He had a son, Eric Taliaferro Massie, who predeceased him. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Walter Massie Jr. and wife, Loraine Bagby; three sisters, Elizabeth Massie Cummings, Page Massie McMullin and Cynthia Massie Turoff; his brothers in law, Dr. David W. Foulk, Dr. Robert E. Turoff and Thomas A. Cummings. Graveside Rites will take place at 3:00 pm, Monday, April 14, 2014, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Greg DePriest officiating. A poem will be read by Dr. Robert Turoff and music will be provided by Stephanie Edwards. Pallbearers will be Dr. David Foulk, Dr. Robert Turoff, Nicholas Massie, Jeff Faust, Brad Hoover, Bill Creasy, Don Bagley and Clinton Blevins. If desired, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to American Lung Cancer Society (1.800.227.2345) or Hope for Paws, 10401 Wilsky Blvd., Tampa, FL 33625. Carter Trent Funeral Home of Kingsport is in charge of arrangements.
