Roy "Doc" Renfro
June 7th, 1924 - January 13th, 2014
Roy (Doc) Renfro, 89, of East Carters Valley, went home to be with the Lord Monday morning, January 13, 2014 following a brief battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on June 7, 1924 in Snowflake, VA to the late William Floyd Renfro and Martha Blankenbeckler Renfro and had resided in Kingsport most of his life. He served in WWII with the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Foss. Mr. Renfro retired from Eastman Chemical Co. in 1986 from Tenite Development. Doc was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He was a born again Christian and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was well respected by the community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joan Hatch Renfro; daughters, Linda Kaye Statzer and Marsha Ann Fletcher; son-in-law, Ronnie Lee Cassell; grandsons, Ricky Lynn and Mark Edward; sisters, Nellie, Jane, Etta, and Lona; brothers, Bill, Claude, and Eugene. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie (Wayne) Bledsoe, Ms. Laurie Cassell, and Karen (Bob) Greene; son, David R. Renfro, all of Kingsport; grandchildren, James (Michelle), Christy, Sarah Beth (Linton), Justin, David Blake (Amy), Aimee Nicole, and Matthew; great grandchildren, Savannah, Joshua, Chelsea, Maggie, Emily, Craig, Clara, and Blakely; sister, Dana Quillen; and his second son, Bobby Yates. A special thank you is given to Hope Young for the special care given to Roy Renfro during his illness. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport. Services will follow in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lelbert Thornburg officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Renfro family.
