James Kent Carter, 68, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday June 30, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. A native of Scott County, he worked at Kingsport Press for a few years and later retired as a tank truck driver from Appalachian Oil Company in 2005. Kent recently professed his salvation and made sure his visitors knew this when they came by. He was a loving and giving friend to many people. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Nicholas Carter and Mary "Mollie" Dye Carter; brother, William "Bill Delaney Carter He is survived by only his friends. A graveside service will be conducted at 3pm Tuesday in Spurrier Cemetery, Hiltons,Virginia. Those who planning to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Scott County Funeral Home. Carter-Trent/ Scott County Funeral Home is serving the family of James Kent Carter.
