Louis Filosa, 62, passed away on Sunday, 2/16/2020 peacefully at home. Lou had been fighting bone marrow cancer and leukemia. He died with his beloved wife, Bernadette Mineo, and daughter, Sami Filosa at his side. Lou was originally from Queens, New York, the son of Edmund and Mary (Violante) Filosa. He was a two time graduate of New York University where he completed a BFA in Film at the Tisch School of Arts and a professional degree in Physical Therapy at the Steinhardt School of Education and Health Professions. He was an avid musician (percussionist), amassed and curated a wide collection of music, graphic arts, novels, video/film, as well as his own unique drawings. He was an open and generous person who was an unacknowledged pioneer of the concept of an urban air-b-n-b during in the early 1980s. While living in a railroad flat in the East Village of NYC, he opened his doors to a variety of musicians and artists who were on the burgeoning music scene at the time. He was thrilled that his daughter, Sami, is pursuing a career in visual arts. For the last 4 years up until he became incapacitated by the disease, he worked as a physical therapist for Providence Hospital Home Health Division, Portland, Oregon. No flowers please.
