Herbert Manis

Herbert Manis 83, of Gate City, VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 after a brief illness. He served in the U.S. Army and was a deacon at Oak Glen Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Rosa Manis; brothers, Jessee and Avery Manis; sisters, Bonnie Coleman and Betty Manis. Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Patsy Manis; daughters, Rita Mason (Jim) and Robin Haynes (Lynn); grandchildren, Jason Haynes (Marcie), Mandy Borcherding (Travis), and Kelly McMurray ( Bryan); great- grandchildren, Dylan Powell, Jimmie and William O'Connor, and Dakoda McMurray; brothers, Ronald Manis (Tootsie), Clyde Manis (Frances), Paul Manis (Carolyn); and Burl Manis ( Linda Anderegg); along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Oak Glen Baptist Church. A funeral service will be conducted at 7pm with Pastor Danny Sykes officiating. Music will be provided by the Oak Glen Singers. A military graveside service will be conducted at 11 am on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Holston View Cemetery with American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 conducting the honors. Pallbearers will be Jason Haynes, Jimmie and William O'Connor, Travis Borcherding, Jerry Coleman, and Sammy Manis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Oak Glen Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:25 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
